I grew up (in the 70s) with lots of New Christy Minstrels, my father was a huge fan and would play a lot of their songs on guitar himself, and I recently stumbled back across this one - having long forgotten it, but boy the memory ran deep when I heard it again. Now my 7yo has started grooving on it, she seems to really dig its spookiness. Hearing it again after all these years, the one new thing I feel like I've realized is, it's a ghost story. The chorus talks about her in the present tense - wearing a crown of sorrow in the moonlight, wearing the silver rings she was promised in life but never received.
