I remember the weekend Jim Bainbridge was referring to in March 1968. Don played the folk club in Ryton on the Thursday at the same time as he was on Top of the Pops much to the confusion of the audience which was absolute capacity. They were even squinting through the frosted windows to see him.
The following night we took him to do his booking at Ashington where there was an enormous queue. Don took out his guitar and busked the queue from which he took ?17. That was ?2 more than his fee of ?15. He said he could never resist a queue.
