GUEST,Kathryn LaMar Camp New Harmony 2017-18:Workshop Signup (70* d) RE: Camp New Harmony 2017-18:Workshop Signup 21 Dec 17

Hi Joe,

I thought I sent you a message a couple of days ago, but don't see it here.

I would like to facilitate two 2-hour workshops this year, one on Friday and one on Saturday. They should be in a location where people could sit in a circle of chairs, with perhaps some table space available also. I don't expect more than 10 people would be coming to either.

1. Appalachian Dulcimer: Learn the nitty-gritty of dulcimer playing in the first hour: How to tune, hold, strum, note, and finger-pick it. Some instruments provided. In the second hour, we will share music in a "play-around" (a song circle with dulcimers--lead, request, demonstrate, or pass on your turn) with each other. Some dulcimers provided. Other instruments welcome, but please play at a beginner, novice, or low-intermediate speed.

2. Ancient Music, with Frame Drums and Native American Flutes. Everyone can claim their birthright to music by learning to play these simple instruments. First hour: Learn the basics of frame-drum playing, including several universal rhythms; and begin playing the minor pentatonic scale on the NA flute, accompanying the heart-beat rhythm. Drums, some flutes (D-min and A-min), and other percussion provided. Second hour: An improvisational flute/drum (and voice) circle, with everyone sharing their own music within. Drum jam, create soundscapes, ask for accompaniment to your own songs and poetry--it's all up to you. Same instruments available, or bring your own membranophonic, aerophonic, or ambient instruments.

    Hi, Kathryn!
Appalachian Dulcimer Friday 4:15, Program Center
Ancient Music Saturday 4:15, Program Center.
I sure enjoyed your Ukulele Kindergarten last year.
    Joe
