The port side of a ship(Left) is so called because that is the side that connects with the pier. The starboard side, (right) is called starboard because that is where the "Steer boards" were attached. that was before the days of the rudder. the "Larboard side is so called because larboard, or Lee board is the opposite side of the ship.. Now you know.do you care?
