Oddly, in its earliest days, one denomination (can't remember which one off hand) refused to put it in its hymn book because "Duw" - God - doesn't get a look-in until the third verse. It also kinda got stuck on the one tune for a long time, but Blaenwern is now quite a popular alternative tune - remembering that words and tunes were once a lot less soldered to each other. There's a Welsh wine called Calon Lan and I'm not sure if there's also a cheese. Robin Huw Bowen and I often joked that we were going to have a party serving only Calon Lan and spend the whole night only singing the words of Calon Lan but to as many tunes as possible.
