I have heard variations of the chorus

"Oh lord above, send down a dove with beak as sharp as razors,
To cut the throats of them there blokes what sells bad beer to sailors!"

for many years, mainly through, singers that have association with Navy (RN or RAN) and also those who sailed on Sailing Ships and shanties singers. Well before I first heard Tom Lewis sing it.

The subject verses always varied, often on how drunk the singer was or where the crew was at the time.
