As sung, the pronunciation is "Cali-forn-ee-ay." Plentiful Web sources say that the tune was composed for the "semi-western" t.v.show "The Californians" which ran 1957-1959. Lyrics were by Harold Adamson and the music was by Harry Warren. Sources say that, as broadcast, the theme song was recorded by the Ken Darby singers, directed by Ken Darby, who had an extensive career in music for t.v. and movies -- see Darby's entries on the Internet Movie Database and elsewhere. DVD's of "The Californians" are available for sale on the Web. Another version of the song was recorded by the Sons Of The Pioneers and was posted on You Tube at the link below.
