Not real-life, but fiction: Any fan of Madeleine L'Engle's books who has read more than A Wrinkle in Time will have met Poly, short for Polyhymnia. Real life: actress Calliope Thorne A woman I know wrote her name as Mairi, as in Mari's Wedding, because Mary was too plain for her. I guess she renamed herself. I, too, have known a few Dylan's but never been sure if they were named for B. Dylan or D. Thomas. Not musical: girl or boy, my child was going to have a name from nature, and so he does: Forest.
