The non-J.L. Poole "No Irish Need Apply". was originally sung in the U.S. by Kathleen O'Neill. It was originally written as a Music Hall song in Britain by (possibly)a Mrs.F. R. Phillips (in both a "ladies" and "gentlemans" versions). Mrs. Phillips seems to have been the first vocalist to sing it. In the U.S. Kathleen O'Neill was responsible for the introduction of the song. Kathleen was born in Dublin in 1833. She began her stage career in the provincial Music Halls of Ireland, then moved to London and sang in a the principal Halls. Coming to the States during the American Civil war the song was "Americanized" for her. Kathleen retired and moved to Muskegon, Michigan in 1877 and died there in 1905.   Early Music Hall Irish comedian Sam Collins also sang a "No Irish Need Apply" but I am not clear yet whether he sang O'Neill's version (in perhaps it's original "gentleman's" version) or someone else's composition.
