Correct Jack. And if you read my posts in this thread you will see you are echoing what I said. It’s using their work to pigeonhole a genre by latterday jobsworths that I have little tolerance for.

The work at the time is of academic interest (although I’m sure they wished it to be empirical) but contrary to the assertions of many here neither define nor influence the label “folk” as it is nebulous to say the least.

The most accurate “what is a folk song” I have come across is “music to accompany a raffle.”
