Thanks. I noticed certain verses turned up in a lot of folk songs but didn't know they were called floaters. This one has a lot of floaters, including "Who's Gonna Shoe Your Pretty Little Foot?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wo0MCQd7274

This kind of makes sense now that I learn the verses come from an old Scottish folk song. The Appalachian tune and words don't quite fit the lyric, as what rural mountain girl would be either so pampered, or have clothes so elaborate that she would need help putting them on? Like many folk songs, when analyzed it doesn't make sense, yet weaves an enduring spell.
