Re Vaughan, according to Roud, Hammond recorded 3 singers in Dorset in 1906 using that title. Though only Polly is mentioned in the song texts as recorded. The title The Swan was used in ms for 2 of them I think.
Vaughn (no 2nd a) was used in 1911 in Searing & Combs Syllabus of Kentucky Folk-Songs.
