Kevin Werner Child 68 Field Recording with bugle horn (25) RE: Child 68 Field Recording with bugle horn 14 Oct 19

I'm sorry for reviving such an old thread, but I wanted to add that I was able to get the recording of McAllister's "Young Hunting" after all.
Entirely by chance I discovered a digitized tape of songs recorded by George Foss in the Kenneth S. Goldstein archive.

Part 1: https://egrove.olemiss.edu/kgreels_unk/397/
Part 2: https://egrove.olemiss.edu/kgreels_unk/398/

Lots of fine songs on these tapes. From members of the Shifflet family and also other known names like Dan Tate. I might make a new thread tomorrow to share a few seldom heard ballad and song variants from the archive with whoever might be interested. Few people seem to be interested in field recordings of traditional music. There are many gems in the Goldstein archive that probably go unnoticed because they are not labeled.

I hope people will forgive me, I took the liberty of downloading the original recording off the website, cutting out the Love Henry ballad and uploading it on youtube for interested people to hear. I was so happy when I stumbled upon this tape. I've been wanting to hear this one song for so many years.

So finally, here is Marybird McAllister singing her fine version of Love Henry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47RKvE9Sz6s&fmt=18
And here is a second video where I tried my best to remove the commentary between the singing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDRTS-v5Gc0&fmt=18

The short interspersed explanations are interesting, but when concentrating on the song it is a bit distracting.

This very full text is near identical to the one that was collected by Cecil Sharp from Mrs. Orilla Keeton of Mount Fair, Virginia, on September 26, 1916: http://www.bluegrassmessengers.com/lady-margret--keeton-va-1916-sharp-d.aspx

The Keeton text was also covered by Hedy West on the LP "Ballads" (1967) Topic Records - 12T163.

Here's the song transcription for McAllister's version, also taken from the bluegrassmessengers website: http://www.bluegrassmessengers.com/love-henry--mcallister-va-1958-foss.aspx
Regarding the "Jericho horn". Other texts have "musical horn" or "bugle horn" instead. It seems to be a phonetic corruption of that.
