Gig bags, if you are unlikely to fall over, are a great idea, particularly the rucksack type ones. Also I think people carrying hard cases look more like targets for thieves. I recently sold one of my soft cases to a classical guitar maestro who always carries high value instruments. Having said that I have never heard of anyone with a hard case being robbed. Of course you can buy hard cases with arm straps too, if your back can cope.
