Gigbags are fine for light use and are easier on my door frames (I have students coming and going all day), but hard cases offer better protection for the instrument and are more suitable for travel. I have both for a few instruments and use according to need.

Just like cases, not all gigbags are created equal. I have a very good Yamaha one, and pretty good Godin/Seagull ones, and a couple of lesser but serviceable ones. Some of the better ones border on hard cases with stiff inserts.
