GUEST,Julia L Songs from the Maritimes (10) RE: Songs from the Maritimes 03 Jan 20

Just wanted to point out that Carrie Grover moved to Maine when she was 12 and really exemplifies the song traditions here. The border was porous with families migrating back and forth from the Canadian Maritimes following the fishing, lumbering and factory work. They brought their songs with them augmenting and exchanging with local songs brought by early colonists to New England. The collections of Fanny Eckstorm, Phillips Barry, Eloise Linscott and Helen Hartness Flanders all have versions of these.

I have recently found a 1914 genealogy journal of a family from Searsport ME which has over 100 songs written in it.

best- Julia Lane
