How good were collectors as transcribing song words when singers had a strong local accent and maybe a local dialect or used local idiom or 'turn of phrase'? We only have to look at mudcat to find examples of people with an experienced ear getting lyrics from a recording not quite right and being helped out by people more familiar with the accent and/or dialect of a singer.
