I opened this thread because I happened to have oopies of three texts of the song on my desk. Two are from the late 1870s and give the river as Yarrow and Arbourer. Oxborough occurs in Harry Cox's version of the 1950s.

I would expect that the name of the river would be the first thing to be changed by the "folk process".
