Ignore the 1985. We have tracked down a recording of The Chieftains at the John Peel Wiki archive. This was recorded at the Paris Theatre on 1-April-1976. It was aired on 24-April-1976 when the group was touring the USA. It is introduced by John Peel with the words: "Start of show (JP intro): "...they are fighting I understand about who is going to keep it at home in the kitchen, but they won it and deservedly so. And their music has an amazingly wide appeal - covers everybody from Grateful Dead buffs through to classical music fans, and amongst the audience here in the Paris are students from Germany and students from France. And all of them I think capable of appreciating the music of - the Chieftains!" But what was the award he refers to? It is here https://peel.fandom.com/wiki/24_April_1976 - scroll right down to Mooo and click there. You may need the Username: peel and password: group The file may then be played or downloaded. We need the tracklist of this recording so if anyone recognises the tunes please append them here.
