A great tune, and well worth cherishing! Back in the 1950s the Ted Heath Orchestra recorded a neat arrangement of it, with the lead played by a soprano sax. At some point it melds into 'Baa baa, black sheep', and for a moment seems about to create a Bach-style fugue on that theme before returning to the original melody. (This version should still be available on YouTube if the copyright police haven't caught up with it.) As an alternative, a Morris mate of mine plays a version of it on his (chromatic) harmonica, which segues into a swinging version of 'Shepherd's Hey'... worth a try if you like experimenting. Wassail!
