Zora Neale Hurston wrote to Alain Locke in 1928 that Odum and Johnson had misunderstood much of the material they collected for "Negro Workaday Songs," her prime example being that they had "the song "Ike and Jerry" cut up into eight or ten songs.

I cannot imagine what she might be referring to. Anyone else have ideas?
