Sarah the flute Lyr Req: Fr. Nicholas Sheehy (or Shehy) song? (12) RE: Lyr Req: Fr. Nicholas Sheehy (or Shehy) song? 10 Aug 21

Yes the song I sang last night on Mudcat was the lyrics that Filipa posted above. I think the last line in the third verse is wrong and is probably "mo ghrá mo chroí (my love, my heart)on the mound of sorrow"

I have to say I added a tune and also a refrain because those wonderful prophetic words of the defence lawyer "If there is justice in heaven you will all die roaring" needed to be included I felt to give the song real meaning. Here are the lyrics to that composed by me and I also make reference in it to Herod's disease which was a deadly infestation of lice or maggots

Bagwell, Dawson, Brahan, Shaw, Willington
Minchen, Maude, Hoops, Tuthill, Tennison
Dunville, Duninead, Ferris, Ferns Lonergan
Insanity, leprosy, with Herod to hell again
Toohey, Moll Dunlea take heed of my warning
If there’s justice in heaven, you all will die roaring

I have a recording of me singing it recently at the Anchor Folk Club on Zoom so will put that up on YouTube and do a link here

I gave it ago because part of my lockdown therapy in an effort to keep fit has been walking around the world on my treadmill using 3D goggles and YouTube videos. I've been working my way through Ireland and found reference to this story while in Tipperary and intrigued also could not believe a song had not been made about this incident.

Thanks Filipa for all your painstaking research and to Joe for reviving this thread. Interesting the original poster was called Sarah but not me!
