As a huge aficionado of all music with harmonies, they were the ONLY two where either part could be melody or harmony and sound perfectly acceptable as either. As Bradfordian said above, we boomers were lucky. We got to hear music of all "genre" on the radio before music got squished into strict genres and radio stations quit playing everything.
