Gavin Paterson A night for Jim McLean (4) A night for Jim McLean 22 Sep 21

I'm sure this will be of interest to Mudcatters. I learned so much from reading Jim's contributions to this group over the years. This is a small payback.

Sunday 26th September continues a full weekend of Folk Music from the 60s and 70s as part of the Paisley Road West Fest. Hamish Imlach will be celebrated on Thursday 23rd, while the Matt McGinn night on the 24th is now full.

Unlike Hamish & Matt, Jim McLean was not a performer. But he was one of the driving forces that created the world we live in today. From Ding Dong Dollar Anti-Polaris to the UCS work-in, Jim was there, writing the songs and producing the albums.

7pm to 10pm at Jimmy's Basement Bar, under The Park Bar, 442 Paisley Road West, Glasgow.

As well as four poets/speakers we will be hearing from -

Iona Fyfe, as I'm very sure you know, is a naturally gifted singer and writer. After lending her talents to "The Bairns o' Blythman" at Celtic Connection 2019, she will be appearing at this event, singing some of Jim's songs as well as some from her own extensive repertoire. You won't get too many chances to hear Iona sing in such a small room - her career is very much pointing towards great things. Catch her while you can!

Rosie Kane McGarvey and Tam McGarvey will bring the spirit of political protest that features in so much of Jim's work. You can draw a straight line from Ding Dong Dollar to Rosie and Faslane.

I was hoping that Alastair McDonald would be able to sing for us, but he's in the middle of some major dental work and won't be able to join us. So it will be myself, Gavin Paterson, singing some of the songs that Jim wrote and produced for Alastair.

In a few months, Jim will be inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame. I hope Celtic Connections are paying attention.

All of that - for free! But you need to reserve a seat by emailing Helen Kyle at scotlandineurope@gmail.com
