I have the original book by Milton Allen - actually a nom de plume - Milton and Allan Lambert. They had Lambert's Timber Yards on Colne Road, Burnley. The original tune in the book bears no resemblance to the modern version of the tune, so I believe the modern tune was likely written by Brian Osborne along with the third verse. The original tune seems to have Victorian influences and is not very attractive. Actually in the book he adds the name of his brother Allan to the copyright which suggests that they both wrote some of the lyrics to Old Pendle along with other songs of Pendle country. In the next few weeks I will scan and copy the book to my website on www.http://youmustrememberthis.co.uk/Folk%20Corner.html
