Sticking to DAGDAD, I wonder if removing the "reentrant" aspect would make it slightly less awkward. Martin Carthy's CGCDGA tuning only made sense to me when I read the explanation that it was cello tuning with some interpolated.strings - CGcDgA (capitals here highlight the cello tuning, they don't indicate octave). Similarly, I vaguely recall Ged Foley of the House Band explaining to me that his guitar had tenor banjo tuning with 2 other strings interpolated, but I forget the fine detail. On that basis, I think that if I wanted to interpolate Irish 'zouk tuning into a guitar, I'd use dGaDAD. String gauges may be fun, as I doubt a normal set would respond well to this tuning, and I'd expect to have to widen the nut slot for the 3rd string.
