RandyL 1929 Film 'The Wagon Master' - songs (16) RE: 1929 Film 'The Wagon Master' - songs 29 Jan 22

What is missing in the Wagon Master is the the oldest traditional, most made famous cowboy song in America . Four years before Francis Henry Maynard reports to a newspaper reporter his original authorship claim of "The Streets of Laredo" while attending a rodeo in 1924. Four years earlier in 1920, recording artist John McCormack put on Victrola 78 rpm "Bard of Armagh". The melody is cleary used by one of the most talented artist I've ever heard Vince Gill (Bard of Armagh/The Streets of Laredo)recorded together as the same melody. Seven years later 1927 Ewen Hail records "Cowboy's Lament" and under his name on the label is the words "The Cowboy Minstrel". 1920 Bard vs. 1927 Minstrel, What's the difference?.Bard is the synonym of Minstrel. As nouns the difference is that Bard is a professional poet and singer. Minstrel is a historical medieval traveling entertainer, who would sing and recite poetry, often to his own musical accompaniment.
