My own experience was that on a bike, whether push- or motor-, I was a lot more aware of what was going on around me than when I progressed to being shut in a metal box (which might have been behind my preference for soft-tops). Over the years I discovered several occasions when one might have to drive slowly, such as searching for something along the route or trying to get to the next filling station with the electric petrol pump rattling ominously as it starts to pump air. Eventually, I came to regard driving as a team activity - it's not you versus the other road users, it's you and them together, versus the clock. And the clock is not in a hurry.
