I took the first version above (Sweet are the banks...) and set it to Ballandaloch's reel. Gotta love the airy way Burns spoke of setting a sad song to a reel, when the reel, like almost all Brit trad dance tunes, has a range of an octave plus four or five notes, almost all of them eighth notes. Nonetheless with my handy-dandy computer I did it. It makes a nice song but did not set the Mudcat Singaround crowd on fire. That last line: And sae was pu'd or noon. should be "And sae was pu'd ere noon."
