At the Traditional English Song Weekend in Moreton-in-Marsh a few weeks back, there was an interesting discussion of "Handing on the baton" - how we're going to keep what we do going in the longer term, given that none of us are getting any younger (and quite a lot of us date back to the Revival). What was particularly interesting was that, as well as talking about possible barriers to younger people's participation (e.g. in singarounds), several people raised the question of what it is that we want to keep going or hand on. Might there be a future in which traditional English songs are alive and well but singarounds have disappeared, or take a completely different form? Don't answer that - read this ! I've spent some time thinking about these questions, and the answers I came up with are too long to fit into this box, so I've put them in a blog post here: 52 Folk Songs: Thousands or More Share and enjoy!
