SPB-Cooperator Trad song, singarounds & younger people (22) RE: Trad song, singarounds & younger people 12 Apr 23

There will always be younger people from 'folk families' who grow up with the tradition, and will be the future generations of the revival. Unfortunately, young people do not have much exposure to folk/traditional song/music. I am of the generation that grew up and was inspired by the Spinners on TV and Steeleye Span in the charts.

Also at junior school music lessons, singing, albeit toned down, versions of Scottish and English folk song - not sure if this is the case today, and if music lessons draw from wider traditions now, there can't be much wrong with that.
