I tend not to stay with organisers as you say 99.9% are lovely, but I usually have people I know within striking distance. That said I will give you a tip that works for me and was passed on by Bob Fox. Book a Travel Lodge months in advance for a reasonable price. Leave early-ish in the morning, get to the hotel about 3 or 4 pm, get your head down for an hour or two and have a bite to eat, then make your way to and from the gig. Then get back home or on to the next gig in the same way. You are then independent of any problems described above. The Boston Hotel is good in Fleetwood, I've stayed there with my wife. (I actually sang there with Fred Jordan once!)
