I've never depended on folk clubs or festivals for a living, just working to live till age 44, then off to Ireland to do what we both really wanted, a goat/sheep smallholding subsidised by playing in pubs 4/5 nights a week - great fun.... Short UK folk club/festival trips were largely arranged around visits to family and friends and a decent financial position helps greatly in making choices and I did- never been to Fleetwood may I say... Our travels brought us to Galloway 5 ears ago & Covid forced an end to ''GIGS'' but I'm still playing music & enjoying it- any 'folk' stuff is at a distance, but I got a decent 'moothie' during Covid & now have a captive audience in the form of five yowes. So there is life after ''GIGGING'', maybe not as we know it, Jim, but OK by us... baa humbug
