In about 1970, the Marsden Rattlers band from South Shields were asked by Jim Lloyd to contribute a few tracks to a BBC 'Northumbrian' LP- it's the one with a picture of Hadrian's Wall on it.
   The Grace Darling song which was part of the original thread above was one of those, alongside the 'Blaydon Races' etc.
   Her story is one of amazing bravery, but the band read the words of the song, and decided it was an awful piece of doggerel & wanted nothing to do with it & Jim Lloyd accepted that.
Reading it again, I think we were dead right.
