Somehow, this is one of only two threads discussing the famous Western Swing song; the other has the lyrics: click Now, I have a question. I've known this song for a long time and thought nothing of the lyrics, but this morning as I was listening, I had a realization. "The number on the gate is the number on the door / And the next house over is a grocery store" -- is there some implication I'm missing? Most houses will have their street number in multiple places, and as a rule, they're going to be the same number. The only thing I can really think of is that it's implying the house he's in is not a hotel/motel just for hooking up. Probably nothing all that deep to it, just a thought.
