Nigel, you have that wrong. "Terrorists" is a tendentious word, whether correctly applied to Hamas or not (correctly, in my view). I could argue that the IDF killing thousands of children in Gaza, or helping settlers to illegally evict Palestinians from their family farms and killing dozens while they're at it, are acts of terrorism. The BBC is trying to be neutral, that's all, as is its remit. We'll leave the emotional and tendentious tags to the tabloids, don't you think?
