Felipa Lyr Add: Cruacha Glasa na hEireann (Irish) (2) RE: Lyr Add: Cruacha Glasa na hEireann (Irish) 29 Jul 24

I didn't mean to hit "send" yet; I was going to make a few corrections and alterations to the text, and to continue the translation.

translation, continued
also I repeat the chorus in Irish here to correct the spelling of "craobh" and "meanar". Faoi (under, about) can be shorted to "fé" or "fá" okay. In the final verse, I would sing "d'fhág muid" rather than "d'fhágamar", as the former is the norm in the Ulster dialect of Irish Gaelic. And it's more usual to use the preposition "ar", which often lenites the word following, after "ag filleadh" (returning) than "go"; so for the last verse: "Ag filleadh ar chruacha na hÉireann"

chorus
Cruacha glas’ na hÉireann ' lonrú measc coillte craobh,
Ó a chara, nach méanar, sinne faoi dheireadh ag filleadh thar sáile.
Gaotha grinn dár seoladh ' luascadh ar dhroim na mara,
Ó, ní fada go mbeimid slán sa bhaile faoi chruacha na hÉireann

The green mountain stacks of Ireland gleaming among branchy woodlands,
Oh, friend, how good it is for us to be returning at last across the sea,
Sharp winds driving us swaying on the surface of the sea,
Oh, soon we’ll be safe at home under the green stacks of Ireland.

        It’s long since we left,
Our home and our people in sorrow
       Hoping to fill our pockets,
        Abroad with silver and gold.
What does matter if we’re returning,
Without a penny in our pockets, alas,
We still have health in our bones,
Returning to the green stacks of Ireland.
Without a penny in our pockets, alas,
We still have health in our bones,
Returning to the green stacks of Ireland.
