As long as we're talking music-hall and broadsides, let's not forget "Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye." Patrick Gilmore's "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again" was also being sung "traditionally" for some decades, but no one "collected" it, because everybody knew it. (During the Civil War, soldiers often sang the line "And we'll all feel gay" as "And we'll all drink stone blind" or "And we'll all get dead drunk.")
