I've just listened again to Guthrie's version of "Buffalo Skinners." It's a strange hybrid of that song and this one, with lines about the "buffalo range" as well as cowboys and cattle. It even includes "Griffin." Guthrie's tune is related to Holcomb's. He recorded "Buffalo Skinners" in 1945.
