Yes John, I only saw him once, when we had him down for a concert/festival at the Bladnoch Distillery near Wigtown, about 2007? He had his his wee piano resting on the said ironing board! I was curious & asked him about it & he said 'oh it just helps me keep ma feet on the ground'- an attitude I liked a lot, but maybe this self-effacing approach is one reason his work is still much under-appreciated. John Watt wrote a song called 'I don't like Dundee' mainly extolling the beauties of Fife eg 'Johnny's Prize Bingo in Methil' and told me it was a response to a Michael Marra song which I've not heard, nor can I track it down
