I don't hate "I'll Be Home for Christmas" per se, I hate that nobody gets that it's a very sad song. It seems like a pleasant if sentimental song till the very last line which says I'll be home for Christmas if only in my dreams. You suddenly realize this is coming from a soldier in WWII (released in 1943) who will definitely not be home for Christmas. It's like a gut punch.
