"Scotland the Brave" was originally "Brave Scotland" in the Gesto Collection (for the fiddle) of the 1880s. But it's in a pipe collection for the Boys Brigade as "Scotland, the Brave!!" around 1915 - I think this was only in manuscript, it's in the NLS. So Hanley didn't invent the title and if it was just a tune, the film might have got it right.

Hamish Henderson used it in a slightly variant form a year before Hanley for "The John Maclean March" but didn't name it.
