LA SETMANA

Quand ven lo diluns,
Mon marit me ditz de laissar mon fus;
Quite ma fialosa e laisse mon fus,
Jamai de la vida fialarai pas pus.

Quand ven lo dimars,
Mon marit me ditz de far un bon repàs;
Tue las galinas e laisse lo gal,
Jamai de la vida un tan bon regal.

Quand ven lo dimècres,
Mon marit me ditz de faire de breces;
Ieu ne fau de breces e de brecilhons,
Per breçar las filhas ambe los garçons.

Quand ven lo dijòus,
Mon marit me ditz d'atalar los buòus;
Atali las vacas e laisse los buòus
Per çò qu’an de banas e m’embanarián.

Quand ven lo divendres,
Mon marit me ditz que me voliá vendre;
Anam a la fièira: pas ges de mercants,
Jamai de la vida ieu ne rise tan.

Quand ven lo dissabte,
Mon marit me ditz que me voliá batre;
[E] se tu me bates, que me fagas mau,
N’arrape la bilha e t’assucarai.

Quand ven lo dimenge,
Mon marit me ditz d’arrapar la penche;
Arrape la penche, me penchene un pauc,
Soi la pus polida de tot mon ostau.
THE WEEK

When Monday comes,
My husband tells me to leave my spindle,
I let my distaff and leave my spindle
Never in my live will I spin again.

When Tuesday comes
My husband tells me to make a good meal,
I kill the hens and leave the rooster,
Never in my life such a good treat.

When Wednesday comes
My husband tells me to make cradles,
I make cradles and little cradles
To rock the girls and/along with the boys.

When Thursday comes,
My husband tells me to yoke the oxen,
I yoke the cows and leave the oxen
Because they have horns and would gore me.

When Friday comes,
My husband tells me that he wanted to sell me,
We go to the market (fair): no merchants,
Never in my live did I laugh so much.

When Saturday comes,
My husband tells me that he wanted to hit me,
"And if you hit me, if you hurt me,
I'll catch the block (of wood) and I'll knock you out."

When Sunday comes,
My husband tells me to grab my comb
I grab my comb, I comb myself a little,
I'm the prettiest of all my house.
. The song has been collected by Éliane Gauzit in Lodève, cité occitane. She mentions it’s been collected in Chants et chansons populaires du Languedoc-1, Louis Lambert - 1905. It has also been recorded by the duo “Aiga Linda”.
