Tony Rees Origins: Jesus Met Woman at the Well/Maid & Palmer (91* d) RE: Origins: Jesus Met Woman at the Well/Maid & Palmer 21 Apr 25

OK, the above fragment is pretty short, just a taste that Child 21 *may* have travelled to the U.S. - however there do not seem to be any other versions of it known from there.

However, courtesy of a correspondent, I now have a copy of the full 1955 text as sung by Anna Ní Mháille (age 86) to the collector Pádraig Ó Móráin, as held in the National Folklore Collection at University College Dublin and transcribed by Anne O'Connor for her thesis and 1991 publication, which I will hopefully put up tomorrow. Note of course that this pre-dates by a number of years the more well known version(s) collected by Tom Munnelly from John Reilly of Co. Roscommon, that then became circulated prominently by Christy Moore and Planxty in the 1970s... which itself was 50+ years ago already (gasp!)

Stay tuned,

Tony
