Anybody know anything about castanyoles? The huge ones with resonators used in the Balearics?
A Balearic group once dropped in to Sandy Bell's in Edinburgh - sac de gemecs (similar volume to Highland pipes) and castanyoles as the percussion section, comparable to a snare drum. Not your normal indoor lineup.
I think there is still a maker in Majorca but they are nearly extinct.
