This is the Music Hall song The Modern Swell’s Diary written by J.A. Hardwick and sung by J.W. ‘Jack’ Sharp (1820-56). The Roud number is 5377. Mike Yates collected it in 1985 from Mabs Hall of Billingshurst, Sussex, with the title Studying Economy; this was released in 1987 on the Veteran Tapes cassette Ripest Apples.
