There was an article about Buckley in The New World (née New European) in the June 12th edition, entitled "One big beautiful Bill" ("Before Trump, there was William F Buckley Jr --- the reactionary showman who shaped our modern culture wars"). It ends: Beginning a process that Trump was to perfect, he grasped completely that the best way to sell conservatism is through showbusiness and popular culture. [ ... ] But his greatest gift to the right, in the end, was to show that you could always "own the libs" by making the audience laugh. [ ... ] In November 1967, Time magazine carried a picture of Buckley on its cover, with the line: "Conservatism can be Fun". Which, really, is where all our troubles began.
