Hi Charlie, while about 70% of Yiddish words are of German origin, we Germans also use a lot of Yiddish words, as we say "schicker" for drunk, or "malochen" for work, or "pofen" for sleep, "mazel" for luck and so on. It´s not really "Hi-German", more kind of slang and most people who use it would have no idea that that´s Yiddish they´re speaking. This language has been quite extinct in Europe, I got to know it a bit through music, and I love it. |
