WHO CUT THE GORGONZOLA?
by Frank Stanton, Paul Letram and Buff Nyveland
(C)1943 Top Music Publishers, Inc.

Intro
I love the perfume counter, the smell of new mown hay,
My nose goes for the ozone that sweeps across the bay
A whiff of roasting coffee, a sniff of muscatel,
I cry for frying bacon and Number Five Chanel,
But

1)
Who cut the Gorgonzola? Oh! that awful cheese!
Who cut the Gorgonzola in the ev'ning breeze?
Open up the window; throw it out in chunks;
Plant it in the garden to scare away the skunks!
Who cut the Gorgonzola; was it friend or foe?
Give me a gasmask for my nose!
We'll take Swiss or Sweet Pimento, ev'ryone agrees
But don't cut the Gorgonzola -- choose another cheese!
Oh...

2)
Who cut the Gorgonzola? Tell me if you please!
One breath of Gorgonzola makes me wheeze and sneeze.
I don't mind Limburger, Roquefort, Dutch or cream,
But this Gorgonzola will upset all my dreams!
Who cut the Gorgonaolam rich and ripe and rare?
Why did he have to spoil the air?
Give me Smetena or Cottage, anything you please,
But don't cut the Gorgonzola -- choose another chhese!
Say,

3)
Who cut the Gorgonzola? Listen to our pleas:
Use it for the bombs on Hirohito's Japanese!
Send it to Benito -- that will fix his hash,
Spread it thick on Hitler, right on his trick mustache!
Don't spare the Gorgonzola, it will give 'em fits;
Let's have a Gorgonzola Blitz! With Fromage we'll sabotage 'em; we'll do that with ease
So, let's cut the Gorgonzola for our enemies!

***

Me mum can't recall if anybody actually recorded this little ditty -- but she remembers it being sung by some high-harmony group on the "Kraft Theatre with Bing Crosby" radio show.
