Perusing the member site, I notice a number regulars seem to be either historic re-enactors or Renaissance re-enactors.

So then I wondered, what is the breakdown of Mudcat regulars who engage in this aspect of the folk scene? This aspect of the folk music scene seems to be more an American and English phenomenon to me (ie, not as prevalent in Canada and Ireland?).

Coming from an exclusively music (bluegrass) background, this sort of thing is new to me.

Can someone explain how these things relate to the music?

Any illumination much appreciated!
